To celebrate the fourth anniversary of Guild Wars, ArenaNet have announced a week of festivities to celebrate the ongoing success of the popular MMO, which has seen three expansions since its release in 2005. The birthday celebrations will commence early Friday morning Australian time, (Thursday, April 23, if you're in the Northern Hemisphere), and the party will end on the 29th of April, after nearly a week of special mini-games, events, items, and new content is released.

A number of special items will be found in the world of Guild Wars through out the week, with cupcakes to become random drops from certain monsters, along with a number of other items such as assorted wines, a Crème Brûlée, Champagne, Bottle Rockets, and even some sparklers! In addition, characters who are turning four will receive special gifts, that will appear in their inventories.

The birthday celebrations aren't just a gimmick though - a new update will also be released, which introduces daily quests, extra storage space for characters, and a new Battle Isles area to explore, along with an optional Pet Pack unlock.

To partake in the birthday celebrations, characters visiting the Shing Jea Monastery will be able to revisit the Boardwalk, which has been opened for birthday celebrations within the game. There, players will be able to enter the Dragon Arena by speaking with Captain Li Sah, or try their luck at Rollerbeetle Racing by speaking with the Rollerbeetle Trainer.

Thursday, April 23

* Indulge your Sweet Tooth when Birthday Cupcakes start dropping from creatures across Tyria, Cantha, and Elona.
* See awesome hourly fireworks displays over Lion's Arch, Shing Jea Monastery, Kamadan, and the Great Temple of Balthazar.

Friday, April 24

* Test your luck and skill at the Shing Jea Boardwalk! Starting at Noon Pacific (-7 GMT), this popular venue will once again open to the public in the Shing Jea Monastery.
* Challenge yourself and others in Rollerbeetle Races and the Dragon Arena. Starting at Noon, these mini-games will be accessible from Lion's Arch, Shing Jea Monastery, Kamadan, and the Great Temple of Balthazar.

Tuesday, April 28

* Starting at 12:01 AM Pacific on Tuesday, April 28, characters turning four will find a gift in their inventories that has a new miniature from this year's birthday series. Characters turning one, two, or three will receive a wrapped miniature from that corresponding set of past Guild Wars birthday presents. We give birthday presents year round, so each of your characters will receive gifts on their personal birthdays (creation dates).
